DSU Educators Rising Learning Expo Oct. 8
September 24, 2025
Dakota State University’s College of Education & Human Performance is hosting an Educators Rising Learning Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The event is an opportunity for high school students interested in teaching to learn what it means to be an educator. Participants will hear from South Dakota Teacher of the Year Amy Verhelst and engage in hands-on activities led by DSU faculty and students. They will also learn about specific teacher education programs and pathways at DSU, according to Dr. Jennifer Nash, DSU faculty member.
Educators Rising is a national organization dedicated to “cultivating a new generation of highly skilled educators by guiding young people on a path from high school through college and into their teaching careers,” according to its website.
Dakota State partners with the South Dakota chapter to give students the opportunity to come to campus and learn about becoming a teacher at Dakota State.
The hands-on sessions will provide students with practical skills, tips, and insights relevant to a future career in education, Nash explained.
“These events are designed to boost high school students’ knowledge of and enthusiasm for the profession while also revealing the complexity of being a teacher,” Nash said.
DSU is expecting approximately 100 attendees, and the College of Education & Human Performance faculty and students hope all who step foot on campus for the event feel their passion for teacher education.
“We love what we do,” Nash said. “We hope they experience that passion throughout the day, whether attending a hands-on session, talking in the hallway with current DSU students, or interacting with faculty.”
